Reforesting in Monteverde
Last week our group worked really hard filling dozens of bags with soil, one of the first steps in the process of reforestation. These bags will later be home to seedlings in the CIEE tree nursery here on campus. We talked about how planting trees is one way of offsetting the carbon footprints we leave as travellers.
Today we had the opportunity to participate in the last step of the process. The teachers and I were so impressed by the student’s dedication to aid in reforestation in Monteverde, even in the face of a tropical storm.
We hiked to Don Macho’s farm where we planted about 30 trees. By doing this, we contributed to the project of creating a biological corridor that will support the protection of Costa Rica’s biodiversity and help to preserve this beautiful part of the world that we are falling more in love with each day.
