Port, Pizza, and Preserve: A Weekend Adventure in Puerto Madero
This past Saturday we trekked by colectivo (public bus) to the Puerto Madero neighborhood, a once abandoned port that has become a revitalized , modern, and sought after area of the city. It is lined with state of the art skyscrapers, waterfront eateries, and is home to the emblematic naval training ship Buque Fragata Sarmiento. The ship is a turn of the century battle buque where Argentine marines were trained, and it is now converted into a museum. The students perused the ship and exhibits before eating lunch at a waterfront pizzeria. The last activity of the day was a walk in the ecological reserve Costanera Sur, a sizable and biodiverse green space in the city. The reserve includes lagoons, various walking paths, views of the city skyscrapers, more than 500 species of native vegetation, up to 340 different species of birds, striking panoramas of the Rio de la Plata river, and more.
