Out and About in Alicante!

Hola a todos!

The Global Navigators in the Language and Culture program in Alicante have gotten off to a great start. This past week has been filled with activities that have allowed the students to explore the city, while practicing their Spanish skills with locals. Students participate in daily "Community Conversations," which are intentional activities designed to reinforce what has been taught in class that day, providing authentic practice with locals in the community. During our first community conversation students were split into groups and had 30 minutes to introduce themselves to locals, and ask then questions about what to see and do in Alicante. As you can imagine, the students were quite nervous at first, but they quickly overcame their nerves and proved to be courageous risk takers. At the end of the conversation students were required to ask the locals for a selfie with them for proof of assignment completion (and for some amazing pictures as you can see above!)

In the afternoon the Global Navigators continued their exploration of the city of Alicante and continued to take risks and speak with locals during our "Yinkana" (scavenger hunt) of the city. Students were divided into teams and given ten tasks to complete that involved asking locals questions about Alicante, as well as directions. The winning team won a "premio." All of the teams won a rewarding and engaging experience as they got to know the city and locals better!

Hasta luego!
