Marrakech Trip
Friday was our departure to Marrakech,
The region of Marrakesh, the plain south of the Tensift River in southern Morocco, has been inhabited by Amazigh farmers since Neolithic times, and numerous stones and sediments have been unearthed in the area.
Marrakesh served as the capital of the vast Almoravid empire, which stretched over all of Morocco, western Algeria, and southern Spain (al-Andalus). Because of the barrenness of its surroundings, Marrakesh remained merely a political and administrative capital under the Almoravids, never quite displacing bustling Aghmat, just thirty kilometers away, as a commercial or scholarly center.
The students had a chance to experience the old city on a guided tour where they were shown the innermost part of the Medina. They learned about the culture and how the locals live. They had a chance to experience the "Souk" and the artisan's workshops.
They enjoyed a nice walk-in "Jemma al afna".
They enjoyed a nice dinner on the rooftop looking over the city of Marrakech and had a chance to try some of the local delicious food.
Next stop "Ourika"
