Mar7aba
Mar7aba is the Moroccan Arabic word for Welcome. As the first week came to an end, our students were welcomed with love and hospitality from their homestays, service site, and members of the community. Students started off the first week with an introduction to Moroccan culture and an outline of the program. Eager, Excited, Nervous, And Thrilled were all emotions that students felt the first week.
After visiting the youth center, where students volunteer and consuming lots of “atay” (Moroccan tea), Students ended the week with a visit to one of the biggest Mosques in all of Africa. Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is one of the only mosques open to tourist. This visit allowed students to get a better understanding of Islam and it’s strong ties to the culture. At the end of the week students were excited to see what the next week would bring.
