LA GIRALDA: THE BELL TOWER OF THE SEVILLE CATHEDRAL
On our last cultural visit of the program, our students visited the Seville Cathedral and ascended the 35 stories of the old Andalusi minaret to enjoy the amazing views of the city from the Christian bell tower that cronws it. The ascension through the 35 steep ramps, designed for horses, was hard, but it was worht it! The Giralda tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most important symbol of the city of Seville. Finished in 1198, and 343 feet in heght, the Giralda survived the 1635 earthquake that partially destroyed the old Almohad mosque. The construction has inspired many buildings around the world, and there are replicas of it in many a city in the US, including New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Cleveland and Florida. Enjoy the pictures of our students at the bell tower. We made it through the program, learned and enjoyed a lot. Congratulations to all our students!
