I said-a hip hop......
Even though hip hop was born in the Bronx, NY in the 70s, it came to France in the 80s as it started spreading to other countries! Tuesday, our students had the chance to attend a hip hop workshop and learn about the birth of hip hop and learn some new moves! Our instructor started out with some brainstorming by asking our group what comes to mind when we hear the word "hip hop." Students named certain rappers, styles of dancing, styles of clothes and music. They even knew about rappers delight! She explained that Hip Hop includes the following components: Rap, Graffiti, Hip Hop Dance, DJ, and Beat Box.
After the brief intoduction, it was time to learn some moves! We learned to pop and lock, freeze moves, and funk style! The students were so open to learning and trying something new! We learned some small moves and then put it all together at the end for a final performance! At the end, students worked in pairs to create their own dance and they danced down the soul train line!
