Flamenco en Sevilla
It´s hard to believe we´re already over halfway through this program. The days and weeks have been flying by as we have a schedule packed with morning activities and afternoon classes. Our cultural activity on Thursday morning was a visit to a local dance studio where flamenco expert Silvia gave the students a private class in this classic Spanish dance.
The girls got suited up in flamenco skirts to start the class. First, Silvia introduced the group to the rhythm of flamenco via palmas, or handclapping.
Next, the students learned the steps for one of the basic sevillanas, the traditional Andalucian folk dance popular in this region and the dance seen at the iconic Feria de Abril in Sevilla.
