Empúries Excursion
We traveled back in time at the Empúries Greco-Roman ruins last Saturday.
The day began with an hour-and-a-half bus ride north to the Costa Brava. Most of us dozed off for a bit and then enjoyed the pastoral landscape of the Girona province. Upon arrival at the Empúries ruins, we watched a brief introductory video and then began our tour. Our guide Ester blew us away! She presented classical history in a way that engaged and delighted students. We learned a bit about what life was like in Empúries over 2,000 years ago. Some sites included: a bathhouse, the forum (main square), and a domus (a large, upper-class home).
After the ruins, our visit continued with several hours of free time to hang out at the beach and explore a tiny medieval town called Sant Martí d’Empúries. Students enjoyed soaking up some sun, taking dips in the Mediterranean, and practicing their Spanish at the chiringuitos or beach-side restaurants.
