Carcassonne visit
Last weekend, our students enjoyed a daytrip to the walled medieval city of Carcassonne. Carcassonne is about an hour away from Toulouse by bus. It’s a medieval walled city that has been very well-preserved. Carcassonne is also a UNESCO world heritage site.
Students began the visit with an explanation on the site’s history. They learned about the construction of the city, and how to recognize the different architectural points that make Carcassonne unique. Students then had some free time for lunch. Some may have had the typical dish of Cassoulet, a bean and sausage stew, that is native to the area.
After lunch, the group was able to go into the chateau to visit. Students were able to enjoy spectacular views of the landscape from atop the walkways of the chateau. Students visited Carcassonne at their own pace and were free to explore the shops and restaurants after the chateau visit before our return home to Toulouse.
