Beach Clean-Up!
"Our beaches are the bridge between our world and the ocean." - Undersea Bikini
The students spent an evening learning and reflecting not only about the type of waste found in the ocean, but how it gets there. The group started the evening watching a documentary about plastic accumulation in India. From there, a local biologist and professor led a discussion on the impact of how our individual choices can lead to global change. The students embraced the topic and had incredible self-awareness and contribution to the overall topic of reducing waste in the ocean. The next morning, the students spent a couple hours cleaning-up a local beach near Lisbon. We sorted through the types of trash and why/how the trash got to the beach. After collecting data for a local organization about the trash found, the students created art out of the collected trash! The leaders called it “Treasure Trash.” The students got very creative! Take a look!
