My American Internship: Katherine Z. of Peru

Our "My American Internship" series features CIEE BridgeUSA participants who submitted entries to our photo essay contest. Katherine Z. of Peru served as a food and beverage trainee at The Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes in Orlando, Florida.

Since I started my trainee program at the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes in Orlando, I can confidently say that this experience has exceeded all my expectations. From day one, I knew this would be a journey that would shape both my personal and professional life.

I've had the opportunity to work in two very special areas: the Knife & Spoon restaurant, which has been awarded Michelin stars, and the hotel's pool area, where attention to detail and personalized service make all the difference. In both settings, I've learned so much from culinary techniques and luxury service standards to how to connect with people from diverse cultures.

But beyond the work itself, what has truly made this experience unique is the people. I've made unforgettable friendships with teammates from around the world (as you can see in this photo full of smiles and great memories). Every day is a new opportunity to learn, grow, and share.

I'm deeply grateful to CIEE BridgeUSA for making this cultural exchange possible. This experience has taught me that hospitality goes far beyond service. It's about creating human connections that transcend language and borders.
