How Does It Work?

1. Who can apply?

Any U.S. high school students (you must be a U.S citizen or permanent resident).

2. What are the scholarships for?

Making study abroad as affordable as possible.

3. Which programs offer scholarships?

All of our CIEE Global Navigator High School Summer Abroad programs offer scholarships. Three-quarters of these scholarships are awarded to Language & Culture program applicants.

4. What is the deadline?

The priority deadline is December 1. Applying early increases your chances to get a scholarship. It demonstrates your commitment to the program and gives our selection committee more time to evaluate your application.

The final application deadline is February 17. No scholarship applications will be considered past that date.

5. How are applications evaluated?

Awards are based on a combination of financial need, merit, and passion for our program themes. Merit is based on your transcript, GPA, and the quality of your application.

6. What are your chances?

We award hundreds of scholarships each year. You never know until you apply! Historically, more scholarship dollars are awarded to students in our Language & Culture programs. So if that’s your area of interest, you’re encouraged to give it a shot!

7. Are you eligible?

If you’re:

  • Ready to work hard and fully engage in an international experience
  • Curious about yourself and how you fit into the world
  • Eager to learn how to navigate a new language, connect with a people from a different culture, and impact global issues
  • Excited about a fun summer abroad that will help you develop a global mindset
  • A high school student graduating in 2018, 2019, or 2020 (freshmen, sophomores, and juniors)
  • A U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident
