Meet the Blogger: Savannah
¡Hola! My name is Savannah, and I’m thrilled to meet you!

Bits & Background
I’m a born-and-raised Coloradan who loves the outdoors, travel, running, coffee, live music, and learning. I’ve had the privilege to travel both around the country and around the world (my favorite destination, uncoincidentally, being Madrid), which has made me a curious and eager traveler. So, I’m incredibly excited to be in Madrid as a Language Assistant (LA)!
I just graduated from Baylor University with majors in Communication and Spanish, and a minor in Business Administration. I loved going to football games, All-University Sing, studying abroad, being a tour guide, my sorority, and meeting some amazing people. I'm beyond thankful for my time at Baylor, and can't believe how quickly undergrad flew! CIEE is my first post-grad endeavor, so I’m excited (and nervous!) to take all that I learned during college to the other side of the world.

Why Teach Abroad?
I chose to teach abroad in Spain after hearing about the program from a professor—I had no idea that a job like this was even possible. Although I didn’t study education in college, I think learning is one of the most beautiful privileges that we have. I’ve always been one of those people who love school, so being on the teaching side of things is really exciting to me. I believe that teaching is the intersection between learning and connection: it bridges the head—that is, knowledge—and the heart—increased empathy and community.
Plus, I quickly learned how much I adore Spain after visiting with my family, then studying abroad, and now getting to live there!
What are you most nervous about?
I’m most nervous about not having a background in teaching. While I’ve always been passionate about kids and education, I don’t have professional teaching experience. Fortunately, CIEE offers a TEFL course, so I’m in the middle of finishing that right now with the hope of preparing myself to be a great teacher. (If you’re like me and don’t have a background in education, I highly recommend this course!) That said, I’m ready to “be on my toes” and to learn how to be the best LA that I can be.
Cheers to the Journey
I hope that, through my blogs, you’re able to catch a candid glimpse into my experiences as a Language Assistant in Spain. My goal is to create honest, relevant, and fun blogs for you to enjoy, and maybe even help you in your own LA journey. I can’t wait to share my adventures with you, ¡hasta mi blog próxima!
