Overview
Feel the rhythm in Edinburgh while uncovering the fundamentals of music production to create an original song from real-world experiences.

Music production blends science with artistry, using digital software and recording equipment to capture sound and sculpt it into catchy tracks. Edinburgh is buzzing with a growing reputation in the music industry and boasts a culture of live music and up-and-coming artists. With fellow Global Navigators, record, edit and remix the sounds of the city to curate an original track for your final project.

Through hands-on classes and expert-led site visits, dive into the physics of sound engineering. Visit recording studios, sound labs and natural acoustic spaces to explore how places shape music, while connecting with local teens who share the same creative passion.

Explore Arthur's Seat, the Scottish Parliament and urban neighborhoods to gather unique audio samples. On excursions, travel to the Scottish Highlands, known for traditional folk music, and St. Andrews, a historic coastal town with medieval architecture. Your time in Scotland will lay the foundation for your future career in music production.

The Destination

Welcome to Edinburgh, a city where medieval cobblestone streets echo with centuries of culture and creativity.

From early bagpipe performances to innovations of the Scottish Enlightenment, Edinburgh blends intellectual legacy with musical roots, offering a rich backdrop for exploring engineering and music production. Opening its doors in 1914, Usher Hall stands as one of Scotland's most celebrated music venues, with its near-perfect acoustics hosting orchestras and modern performances. The city's layout, from the echoing chambers of Edinburgh Castle to the narrow alleyways of the Royal Mile, shows how space and structure shape sound.

The University of Edinburgh anchors the city's creative energy. Iconic landmarks like Arthur's Seat and the Scott Monument add to a skyline that inspires musicians and artists alike. Each August, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe turns the city into a global stage for music, theater and multimedia art. In the winding streets of Old Town, sample local flavors such as fish and chips or traditional haggis. Edinburgh's history of creativity and innovation offers a dynamic mixtape to your creative journey into music production.
