Want to Earn College Credits While in High School?

CIEE high school summer abroad Language & Culture programs offer participants the opportunity to earn 4 college credits to put toward a future college degree. Participants must select the “College Credit” option in their high school summer abroad application and pay a $150 fee by May 1. Top-ranked Tulane University, CIEE’s School of Record, awards the college credits earned on program.

What Is a School of Record?

A School of Record evaluates, documents, and awards credits to students so that they can be transferred to another higher education institution. A longtime CIEE partner, Tulane University is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and ranks among the top 50 universities in the U.S.

How Can Participants Earn College Credits?

To earn college credits, participants must select it as an option in their high school summer abroad application and pay the $150 fee by May 1. Participants must have at least a 2.5 GPA and receive a passing grade in a Language & Culture program

College credits in U.S. colleges or universities can cost between $200 and $2,000. Credits earned through high school summer abroad programs provide great savings toward a college degree.

How To Apply for College Credits 

Here are the steps participants must take to earn college credit:

Step 1: Choose your favorite program from our Language & Culture programs, start an application and select the "College Credit" option. You will need to gather a copy of your high school transcript and complete the College Credit Options Forms Task.

Step 2: Pay the $150 non-refundable college credit transcript fee and sign the School of Record waiver before May 1.  

Step 3: Participate in your Language & Culture program and receive a passing grade.  

Step 4: CIEE and Tulane University will award your two (2) official transcripts in sealed envelopes and send them to you no later than December 31. Tulane University transcribes all grades and credits.

Step 5: Submit your official Tulane transcript to the higher education institution you are applying to and receive approval. 

What if My College Doesn’t Accept My Credits?

CIEE cannot guarantee that all colleges or universities will accept your earned college credits. Each institution has its own policies. If your school does not accept them, consider asking if you can test out of language classes or start at a higher level based on your acquired language competencies abroad.

Do Other Summer Abroad Programs Offer College Credit?

Currently, only our high school summer abroad Language & Culture programs offer the opportunity to earn college credits.  

Language & Culture programs can also help earn you the Seal of Biliteracy, an award for high school students who have demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages by the time they graduate.
