WHERE CULTURES MERGE... LEARNING TO PLAY THE "CAJÓN"

One of the amazing things that our Global Navigators have done during this session has been learning to play the CAJÓN. This instrument, which is currently mainly connected to flamenco in Spain, is actually a representation of a true merging of different cultures. It originated in Africa and is actually played in many different countries and as part of very different types of music.
Our students had a fantastic time learning different beats on this instrument and were fascinated (as were we!) by how complete and sophisticated it is in its simplicity.
This activity was an excellent symbol of our program: different lands and different cultures playing to the same beat.
