Surf's Up!
Wind and rain couldn't stop our Global Navigators from another adventure. Today's activity was a surf lesson in False Bay right near our hostel in Surfer's Corner. The students suited up for some winter waves, headed out to the beach for a rundown on the basics, and were ready to get in the water in no time.
The warmup started with a quick run on the beach and some calisthenics, then were able to practice the motions of getting up on their boards on land before taking the surfboards in the water. With the four surf instructors ready to help the students get started, the students used their skills of strength, balance, and quick decision making to read the waves and stand up long enough to ride them!
Our students supported each other with so much encouragement. Even when faced with challenges, they showed grace, positivity and willingness to go outside their comfort zone in order to go outside their comfort zone and learn new things. These are all leadership skills that our students are not only learning but actively demonstrating!
