Papa Francesco
It's not every day that you get up close and personal with a world leader. Today, our students had that special opportunity by attending a papal audience in St. Peter's Square. Pope Francis (Papa Francesco in Italian) addressed the crowd in several languages (including English, Italian, and Spanish) with a themed speech, follwed by prayers, a homily, and some singing. The highlight of the experience was when the Pope drove around the square, allowing us to get within several feet of him!
Here's a view of the crowd gathered to hear the Pope's message:
And the exciting moment when Pope Francis passed right in front of us!
On the walk back to the hotel, students were also able to glimpse the Swiss Guard, who are responsible for the safety of the Pope. We'll be returning to the Vatican in a few days to visit St. Peter's church and climb to the top of the dome. More to come soon!
