Old Biscuit Mill and beading workshop
Over the weekend, we enjoyed beautiful sunny weather and visited the Old Biscuit Mill. The students enjoyed shopping time in the vibrant market area. There is also a wide variety of food vendors, offering foods, desserts and beverages from all over the world.
After lunch, we participated in a beading workshop. Beads have special meaning in African culture and beaded items are typical souvenirs in the shops, such as bracelets, necklaces, beaded animal statues, and keychains. First, we scooped the beads onto a wire. Once we had enough beads, we were given a keychain frame in the shape of Africa. We wrapped the wire and beads around the frame until it was complete. It takes more talent and patience than it seems! What a fun activity and keepsake!
