A New "Spin" on Teambuilding
Although a pottery wheel and a bag of broken tiles may not seem like logical tools for teambuilding, we certainly proved that wrong at the Rabat Oulja Artisan Center! For many of the students, it was the first time that they had tried to spin pottery or design mosaic tiles. With very little instruction, the group was left somewhat puzzled as to what to do first and the correct order. The looked at the globs of clay and the broken ceramics unsure of where to start.
Our language and culture buddies quickly jumped in to help interpret for the students and the expert artisans training us. Once some of the students caught on to exactly what the steps were that they needed to follow, they seamlessly stepped up to take charge of the situation and pass along their newly acquired knowledge to the other students.
After two hours, a table full of beautifully spun pottery ready for baking sat in front of us. Tiled mosaics ready to be plastered and hung covered the floor. It was truly an honor to be welcomed by these artisans to learn their crafts and leave Morocco with handmade creations!
