Meet Cameron G., a sophomore from Mira Costa High School. He spent this past summer studying abroad in Shanghai on our Chinese Language & Culture Program.
We asked Cameron to reflect on studying Mandarin before, during, and after his CIEE summer abroad program.
Before his summer abroad…
“My experience abroad influenced where I am now because I was planning on giving up Chinese before the program. However, the program changed my mind about Mandarin and gave me the confidence and information I needed to continue learning Mandarin.”
During the program…
“One of the biggest insights I had from my experience abroad was that I learned so much about the Chinese culture. Before, I was learning the language but did not know much about the culture, and being in China helped deepen my understanding about food, dress, social norms, and much more.”
After studying abroad…
“Right now, I am a sophomore at Mira Costa High School. I am taking Mandarin outside of school, and because of my experience on this program, I plan to continue to learn the language.”
