Learning German in Berlin
Visiting a new city is always filled with so much rush and excitement, that it is easy to overlook potential struggles. From navigating public transport to getting comfortable in your accomodations, one of the biggest struggles surrounding being aboard is the language gap. Someone asks you your order or tells you they don't speak English, what do you do? Someone asks you to wear a mask on the train or you attempt to buy clothes at the mall, what do you do? CIEE attempts to bridge this gap by providing all of the Global Entrepreneurship students with a few "crash course German" language classes.
After a day or two of settling in, our students were given the opportunity to learn a little bit of German. Although some didn't see the value at first, all left the three-hour class with the skills to start a basic conversation, order food, and tell people in Berlin that they do not speak German. Their amazing teacher lead them in activities, practiced conversations with them, and built their confidence to navigate the German speaking world. With just a short class, our global navigators are now better prepared for their time in Berlin and feel even more excited for the adventures to come in the next two and a half weeks!
