Learn by Living: Art&History&Gelato
Over the past few days, the city of Rome started to tell us about herself: a narration made by images, hidden details, perfumes and sounds.
Through the Survival Italian Classes, our students learned how to make daily conversations, being able to practice their knowledge by interacting with local people. With our bar breakfast experience they had the chance to live the traditional roman morning routine: for roman people, in fact, the breakfast with espresso/cappuccino and cornetto in the bar (Italian "bars" are a bit different than the american ones, they are mostly places where you can order coffee, sweets or snacks) is an essential habit! Being able of ordering your own breakfast is the first step to get in touch with the Eternal City.
But the Eternal City is not only her contemporaneity, but also her history, that we met during our first archaeological stroll, in which our students used pictures and drawing to learn how to read the past life of the city. From Largo Argentina, where Julius Caesar was killed on 15th of March 44 BC, to the Pentheon, the greatest expression of Roman Empire's glory, we walked back through 2000 years of history.
Last but not least, our students had the possibility to experience one of the oldest decoration techniques of human beings: the mosaic. Through the combination of tiny pieces of marble, they had been able to create beautiful designs, product not only of their creativity and imagination but also of the knowledge they've got during these first intense days of program!
