Las Salineras de Mara and Moray

We had an aventurous Friday afternoon by visiting two drastically different sites: Moray and Las Salineras de Maras.

After having lunch with our host families, we packed up into our van and traveled northwest to one of Peru's oldest archaeological sites, Moray. Our tour guide explained the history of this beautiful place, and we were able to learn more about Incan culture. Take a look at some of our photos below!

Then we headed a little further to the Salineras -- or Salt Mines -- of Maras. These saltmines are actually small pozas, or small pools, that are filled with natural salt water. Our tour guide described the process of how the salt is extracted from each poza. We even had the opportunity to taste the salts directly from the pozas! Each poza is owned by one of the local families of Maras, and usually the salt is sold in local stores. We had a great time visiting this unique site and want to share our snaps below!
