There are many new and intriguing ascpects of living in a foreign country, and that certinly holds true for South Korea. Staying in Seoul, I have particularly noticed the extensive health and safty mesures here in the capital. I've listed a few, with pictures, below.

A fire extinguisher at Gyeongbok Palace in Seoul. Despite being a historic site that maintains traditional buildings, the palace is equipped with modern safety equipment.

An alarm system in Gyeongbok Palace. Again, the city has managed to retain the traditional aspects of the palace while adding extensive, but discreet, safety precautions.

Materials stored in a box, with instructions, for a water emergency or accident by a lake in Gyeongbok Palace.

A alert system in the bath room of the hall I have class in. One pulls the string to alert staff if somthing is amiss in thr stall or if they need help for whatever reason.

Materials for a fire on tge second floor if the Woojungwon dorm. These metal boxes are set into the walls of almost every school building I have been into, at least one for each floor.

An AED in the lobby of the Woojungwon dorm. In the U.S., AEDs are a rare sight, but they are increasingly common in Seoul. This is due to a new movment headed by the government to increase CPR safety.

A plaque detailing emergency  procedure in the lobby of  the dorm I am staying in, Woojungwon dorm.
