Herzlich Willkommen to our next guest blogger, Anastasiya Stefaniv!
Anastasiya is from Illinois and is the Level 2 German class during Session 1. She writes below about the vivid contrast between modern and contemporary Germany. Enjoy!
Applying for this program, I was intrigued by Berlin's combination of the modern and quickly evolving cultural scene and its rich history. Experiencing this juxtaposition in person has been a mind-blowing experience. The close proximity of everything in the city makes this contrast even more vivid, which is what creates a tranquil but fast-paced atmosphere, that I think has become Berlin's trademark.
Just a few days ago my host family invited me and my roommate to an escape room. The trendy attraction was in a quaint mall, filled with cozy cafes, well-known fashion brands, and smaller boutiques. Right next to this lively location, overrun by groups of teens and family gatherings, was a cathedral - rebuilt after WWII bombings, with tour guides advertising their programs outside. Being able to experience the contrasting faces of Berlin has certainly been one of the highlights of staying in this city.
It is always wonderful to get our students' perspectives on their time here!
Thanks for reading!
