First Day of Art Workshops in Madrid
Today we traveled via metro to a jewelry studio in the Salamanca neighborhood. Here we learned how malleable wax can be in order to make pendants or rings. Can't wait to see how they turn out when the wax becomes silver! Next we got a visit from our local leather craftsman who showed us the steps to making our own leather pencil pouch. Using materials made from cow skin, we cut out our shapes and began stamping our designs. Next we dyed our leather and glued the pieces together. The most difficult, but also cathartic step was sewing our pouches. We double stiched and backstiched before sealing. We also traveled on the metro in the afternoon, to the Pavimentos Sánchez neighborhood to create ceramic tiles and bowels. We molded the clay with our hands and got to be very creative. It also required a lot of attention to detail and patience. We are having a great time exploring the city and trying various art mediums!
