Yesterday CIEE Berlin visited Humboldt Forum where the students were able to explore an exhibit that explores individual values through a series of questions and art instillations. Everyone had so much fun exploring things like intercultural conversations, giant face statues, sound color coordination, and even a mini-disco. After a packed morning of classes and a lovely afternoon at the Humboldt Forum, students began finding their way home. A few students wanted help navigating the subways back home and came with another CIEE staff member and I. We walked to the bus stop, anticipating an easy ride back to G27, but found out we would have a 17 minute wait. Shortly after this discovery, we were informed that the road we were on was shut down, no more buses. We walked and tried to find another bus, but there was a long line of traffic. After all of the bus drama, we decided that we should take the subway. So we had the opportunity to walk to Alexanderplatz, a very famous square with iconic buildings like the Berlin TV tower. On our walk to the subway station, we crossed a bridge and looked out over the river. The water glistened, the buildings shone, and we all stopped. We stopped to appreciate how beautiful that moment was. As we kept walking, we all talked about how life is really about appreciating the little moments. Life is about not getting frustrated when you miss your bus or the road closes. Life is about not letting that feeling that everything keeps stacking up on you settle in. Life is about finding the beauty. In those small moments, all we can do is find the beauty.
