Cooking class!
As we near the end, our students are collecting many memories to bring home. One memory I’m sure will last was the cooking class. Learning to cook a traditional Cape Malayan dish with a 3rd generation local resident was a unique experience.
All hands were on deck as all the students worked cohesively to make samosas, curry paste and of course bollas, to satisfy their sweet tooth! Many were introduced to new and familiar spices as our host shared how many Cape Malayan recipes came from the diversity of communities in the neighborhood.
While the plates were left empty, it was clear that hearts and tummies were full! We are sure after this experience that students will be bringing back more that just memories, but they will bring back a piece of Cape Town and the local culture.
