Berlin's Olympic Stadium
Yesterday we took guided tours of Berlin's history-rich Olympic Stadium. We learned about the site's origins as a horse racing track all the way up through the stadium's current form and uses today. Our tour guides talked about the stadium's groundbreaking architechture, including several features that were the first of their kind in Europe or in the world. We also learned about the 1936 Olympic Games and how Nazi Germany used them for (highly successful) global propaganda. We visited the Jesse-Owens-Lounge (currently the largest event room in the stadium). Finally, we learned about present-day uses (and costs) of the stadium, such as the massive Rammstein concerts to take place this weekend, which we got a sneak-peak into the setup for as it was taking place while we were touring.
Some program participants even had the chance to host a press conference, flawlessly juggling tough questions from demanding journalists (their peers)!
