Benvenuti a Roma!
Ciao! Benissimo! Grandissimo! Bella! Arte! Amore! Amici!
On Saturday, June 11, thirty-two students made their way to local airports all around the United States to come together in Rome, Italy for a three week Global Discovery program, Exploring Rome through the Arts! This is a diverse group of students between the ages of 14-18 who are ready to explore Rome, Florence and the surrounding area. Students landed at Rome's Fiumicino airport Sunday morning and early afternoon where they were greeted with huge smiles and welcome hugs by the local CIEE staff! They were taken by bus to their hotel to drop off their bags and then walked to a nearby restaurant for an authentic Italian lunch...PIZZA!!! After filling their stomachs with pizza, fried dough, and panna cotta, they headed back to the hotel for a brief meeting to learn who they would be sharing a room with and a few of the rules/expectations. Students had a couple hours to recharge before heading to dinner. Dinner on this first day consisted of three choices; pasta con pesto, arista al forno e patate al forno, insalatone ricco e pane. By this point in the evening, the students were exhausted after the many hours of traveling plus the time difference BUT they were troopers and managed to stay awake until we left the restaurant and returned to the hotel by 11pm. Once we returned to the hotel, they hurried to their rooms for a good night's sleep to end their first day in Rome!
