Benvenuti a Roma!
Ciao everyone! This is Tylar, one of the Program Leaders for the “Exploring Rome through the Arts” Program during Summer Session 1. We have had a very busy two days full of traveling, meeting new friends, and wandering through the neighborhood that will be our home for the next three weeks.
We started our journey with a long day and night of travel, with some unexpected storms causing delays, cancellations, and missed flights, but our participants have been real troopers! Despite being tired from traveling, we all made it safe and sound to Rome. Every time a new person met up with the group, the students took advantage of another opportunity to chat and get to know someone new. I’d say their excitement about being in Rome seems to be outweighing the jetlag so far!
After we landed in Rome, the CIEE Rome staff escorted us to our hotel, where the participants had some snacks while listening to a short presentation to learn some of the basics about living here. Then, off we went to explore our neighborhood on a short walking tour. The participants saw Castel Sant’Angelo, St. Peter’s Basilica, and, most importantly, they had their first taste of real Italian gelato! We finished off the day with a delicious dinner of bruschetta and pizza before heading back to the hotel to get some well-deserved rest.
We are so looking forward to exploring Rome and sharing our journey with you. Stay tuned for more posts from me, my co-leader Carla, and even some contributions from our fantastic participants!
