This weekend our CIEE students' adventure continued with an overnight excursion in Leipzig.  We spent 2 nights at the Sleepy Lion Hostel in Leipzig arriving around 7 p.m. on Friday allowing the students to explore the city of Leipzig with plenty of daylight since it does not get dark until 10 p.m. with the summer equinox just behind us.  After arriving back at the hostel, the students shared lots of laughs and community in their shared rooms.

Saturday began with free time to explore the Bach house and the art museum in Leipzig of which many students took advantage.  The day continued with groups eating lunch together at Auerbach’s Keller and the historic Moritzbastei.  Each group had their own unique experience with the variety of food offerings.

The day continued with a city tour by excellent knowledgeable tour guides who informed students the importance of the city of Leipzig as a trade city.  We visited the Thomaskirche where Johann Sebastian Bach founded the Thomaskor and was Music director.  Students also learned about the importance of Leipzig for the Peaceful Revolution in 1989 leading to the fall of the Berlin Wall.  The day ended with students each eating a group dinner together at a variety of restaurants.

Sunday was spent with students making an easy trip back to the Leipzig train station which is the biggest in Europe and now more like a shopping mall.  Students arrived back at their host families in the late afternoon where they could cool off and relax.  Although it was a hot weekend, students maintained positive attitudes and had a successful bonding weekend together.
