Auf Wiedersehen, Berlin!
It is hard to believe, but our four weeks together have gone by so quickly. We finished out our excursions with a visit to the history-rich Reichstag building. The building, which has been witness and at the center of many events in German history now serves as the home of the Bundestag (Germany’s parliament). Students had the opportunity to go up into the futuristic glass dome on the top of the building. Here, visitors can learn about the history of the building, the importance the building has served in Germany’s history, and get a great view of the Berlin skyline.
Tonight, we wrap up our program with a farewell dinner with our global navigators, host families, and program staff. Though each of our students has had their own unique experience while here, I know that they have grown both in their language abilities and personally. Our students have made a great stride in becoming global citizens. They have made friends, global connections, and interacted with another culture in a positive way. There is a saying that is popular here in Germany. We are leaving with a “tear in one eye and a smile in the other”. We are sad that our time here is coming to an end but we are all glad for the experience and what we have gained from it.
Auf Wiedersehen!
