Adventures in Rotterdam STUDENT TAKEOVER:Aasha Ryan
On a rainy Thursday afternoon we took the train from Amsterdam to Rotterdam. The hostel there was very different than The Generator. It was a lot smaller and as I walked up the stairs I noticed how steep they were. The room was very big and we had a balcony. After settling in, we went on a walking tour but got dinner first at the big food court (Markthal). I noticed some boba shops as we walked in so as soon as we split off I made a beeline straight there. While we were in the food court, Mia, Sienna, Olivia and I tried dragon breath which is a crunchy ball and you can breathe out smoke. The food court was fun but it was time to continue the tour. We met up with everyone else and continued our tour. We visited these cube homes which were crazy on the inside. We walked along the canals and headed back to the hostel.
The next morning we visited the floating farm. It's exactly what it sounds like. An open two-story structure that was connected to the rest of the farm. After we learned a bit about it we went on a short tour. They had a really cute baby cow and some older ones in a seperate area. We also got to try cheese and milk that they made. Then we got sandwiches and visited two museums. The first one, though not very big, was packed with stories about World War 2. We watched a tragic video about how Rotterdam had been bombed but got rebuilt. The second museum was very creative. They had this floating dock hangout area. It had bean bags and hammocks so a few of us took a nap. After that we walked to our pancake boat cruise. Yes, a boat that served pancakes for dinner. It was an hour and a half boat trip and there was a pancake bar with toppings. We had a little contest to see who could eat the most pancakes. I was confident I was going to win. I did not.
Finally, we walked back to the hostel. Although we only really had a day in Rotterdam, we packed it with so many cool activities.
