Mercii Thomas is an Physical Education and Health Teacher who works with elementary-aged youth to build their physical, mental, and social skills through play. Known affectionately as "Coach T" by students, Mercii believes that fruits of our labor are the results of the many branches of the work that we do -- and the efforts we put forth to grow.
As an educator, Coach T has worked tirelessly to foster an inclusive environment - both in and out of the classroom. By organizations such as the American Heart Association, GLSEN, and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, she worked to secure national recognition for her campus as one of "America's Healthiest Schools". Prior to teaching, Coach T worked in the nonprofit sector to improve teacher quality, develop the leadership skills of underrepresented high school students in an effort to expand college access, and support the development and design of out-of-school time programs.
Mercii graduated with honors from Howard University in Washington, D.C. with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and later with a Master of Education. She has a passion for social justice and spends time reading and researching important issues to see how she can best support the cause. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, mindfulness activities, watching Netflix, and spending time with loved ones --including her dog, Roxie the Luck Dragon
