Meet the Blogger
Hi everyone! My name is Megan and I am from Vancouver, Canada. Before I dive into sharing stories and tips about teaching abroad, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share what inspired me to start this journey of teaching in Thailand!
Education Background
I graduated last year from Idaho State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in English Language Studies. I always knew that I wanted to travel abroad, and throughout my degree I started to think about finding something that combines both. That’s when I decided to really start researching teach abroad programs, to see what was offered and where I wanted to go!
Why CIEE
After hours of extensive research, I decided to teach abroad with CIEE for a few reasons:
- Flexibility. CIEE offers a six-month contract with the option to extend! This was really appealing to me as a first-time traveller to Thailand as I'll get a glimpse of what life is like here and the option to stay if I don't want to say goodbye!
- Before, during, and post-support. There’s always a chance of scams if you’re working through a third-party, but CIEE is the exact opposite. They lived up to everything that is advertised for their teaching program, were in contact with me leading up to my departure, and made my transition almost effortless.
- Thailand! Of course, the main reason I chose CIEE was because they had my dream location, which made the decision so much easier. I couldn't turn down the perfect chance to turn a long-time dream into reality!
Beyond the Classroom
During my spare time I enjoy: hanging out with friends, all things outdoors, reading, running or playing sports (tennis is #1), and of course, finding my favourite corner in a new coffee shop. The way I spend my free time is about to look a lot different, but immersing myself in the culture is what drew me to Thailand in the first place.
The Next Chapter
I’ve only been in Thailand for one week, but somehow it’s already starting to feel like home! If you’ve ever dreamed of teaching or traveling abroad, you’re in the right place. With that being said, there’s a whole new world to uncover here, so bring your curiosity (or your passport) and stick around for what's to come!
