Finding Peace in a Time of Uncertainty
It has been officially 23 days that we have been in quarantine. Amidst this time of uncertainty, I have found peace with my decision to stay here in Madrid. Creating a list of daily goals has helped me structure my day to day activities in our flat. One of my main goals and priorities is to write in my journal & to read. I truly enjoy reading and writing on our balcony (not only is it a time to get fresh air but it's a great time to observe my surroundings.) That is where this short poem came into creation. I know it can be easy to get caught up in the fear and anxiety of the unknown. But I also believe that I have the choice to take this time to reflect, observe and enjoy this moment of being still. I am hopeful that we will return to our classrooms (trust me when I say I truly miss my students and colleagues.) I'm hopeful that we will be able to walk & explore Madrid in due time.
Finding Peace in a Time of Uncertainty
How beautiful it is to take a moment and standstill
To look up at the blue sky
To see how vibrant the clouds are as they pass the sun
To watch the birds fly freely up above us
To observe the colorful windmill on my neighbors' balcony
To see the Spanish flag waving in the wind
To watch the pigeons peck at the floor in search for food
To see a man walk the lonely street in our neighborhood
To feel at peace as I write down these words from pen to paper
To feel hope that we will be able to walk in the city streets of Madrid, rejoicing in one another's company
To fully love and embrace each and every moment
Just as I am enjoying this very moment right here right now
In this time of uncertainty
