Frequently Asked Questions
The Global Citizen Grant is a monetary award of $2,500 designed to help high school students participate in a life changing CIEE long-term program.
Founded in 1947, CIEE is the U.S. largest nonprofit study abroad organization. Every year, close to 40,000 students study abroad on a CIEE program, in over 40 locations worldwide. CIEE also administers the CIEE Global Navigator Scholarship Program, the largest of its kind, awarding more than $7 million to over 1,200 U.S. high school students every year.
Any teacher or administrator at an eligible high school can nominate a student. Eligible high schools include those that sent 5 or more students on CIEE programs during the summer of 2025.
You can nominate any of your students, past or present, as long as they are in 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade during the 2026-2027 school year. They also need to be excited about studying abroad and eager to see the world! Talk to the students you have in mind before nominating them to make sure they are on board and available to travel next year. The nominated student should be planning to apply for one of CIEE's long-term programs. Once nominated, it’ll be the student’s responsibility to complete a CIEE application.
Nominations are completed via the CIEE Global Citizen Grant Nomination Form below. Simply fill out the form for each student you wish to nominate and CIEE will be in touch.
The $2,500 grant is applicable to CIEE's long-term programs, which include 2026 CIEE High School Semester Abroad, Gap Year Abroad, or College First Year Abroad programs.
