How Does It Work?
Fully Customized Programs
Develop a signature cohort program specifically designed for first year students at your institution! In the fully-customized model, CIEE can collaborate with your institution to develop an attractive catalog of courses specifically for your students with content unique to the location. CIEE can hire qualified faculty from our network to teach syllabi from CIEE’s catalog or your own with opportunities for your own faculty to teach abroad as well. Customize the dates, co- and extra-curricular cultural activities, and even housing options for a signature program to draw students to your institution with an exciting global start to their studies.
Modified CIEE First Year Abroad Programs
Align your program calendar with any one of CIEE’s First Year Abroad Programs to create a program that offers opportunities for your students to integrate with CIEE students on a given program. Curricular alignment may provide a more affordable way to offer more course options, and thereby attract more students, as well as the opportunity for students to take advantage of CIEE’s student life activities and variable housing options. Like fully-customized programs, CIEE can hire qualified faculty from our network to teach syllabi from CIEE’s catalog or your own for a signature or required course, such as a first year seminar, or you can send your own faculty for a block or a semester to teach abroad as well.
Sample Programs
CIEE hosted cohorts of 80+ first semester, first year students with staff from their home institution at CIEE Berlin and CIEE Lisbon centers. Students enrolled in 4 CIEE-taught courses that were developed from syllabi from the home institution over the course of the semester. CIEE provided the following services:
- A selection of 10+ CIEE-taught courses in English in a range of fields such as first year writing, political science, math, history, and language
- Dormitory-style accommodation in a single building
- Excursions, cultural events, and social activities unique to the location
- Transportation passes
- Health and safety services such as orientation, 24/7 emergency response, etc.
- End of term evaluations and post-program quality report
- Pre-departure orientation, planning, and enrollment support
CIEE Berlin hosted a cohort of 20+ second semester, first year students with faculty from their home institution for two blocks. During each block, students enrolled in one CIEE-taught course of their choosing and one home institution-taught course. CIEE provided the following services:
- Classroom space for home institution-taught courses (one in each block)
- A selection of courses from CIEE Berlin’s curriculum taken alongside students on the CIEE program (one in each block)
- Dormitory-style accommodation in a single building for students and faculty housing in an apartment in Berlin
- Excursions, cultural events, and social activities with other CIEE students
- Welcome and farewell meals with their cohort
- Transportation passes
- Health and safety services such as orientation, 24/7 emergency response, etc.
- Pre-departure orientation, planning, and enrollment and advising support
