Accessing Innovation
CIEE has partnered with Arizona State University on the Global Flex program, an innovative program that promotes access to study abroad by allowing students to take a combination of ASU courses online and CIEE courses or internships in-person during CIEE’s Open Campus Block Programs. This approach offers students the unique opportunity to design a study abroad experience that fits their schedule and academic requirements while experiencing CIEE’s student life and health and safety support in locations around the world.
What's Included?
Offered in the fall, spring, and summer terms, students enroll in CIEE’s Open Campus block programs in over 15 countries alongside other CIEE students. In addition to optional CIEE coursework, students take advantage of CIEE Open Campus student life and health and safety inclusions, such as:
- Pre-departure advising and support
- Housing
- Social and cultural activities
- Day trips and/or excursions
- CIEE’s world-class health and safety support (including on-site orientation, 24/7 emergency support, and iNext comprehensive insurance)
How Does It Work?
Combining Online & Abroad
CIEE’s 6-week Open Campus Block programs align with ASU’s online course calendar. This allows students to select the time abroad that best fits their schedule – 6, 12, or 18 weeks (1, 2, or 3 blocks). Students can earn a full semester of credit through this program abroad, or choose to participate in a single block and return home to continue ASU online courses for the remainder of the semester.
Depending on the location, students earn up to 18 credits from ASU’s online course catalog or CIEE in-person courses or internships in nearly any one of CIEE’s expanding list of Open Campus Block locations.
Global Flex Academic Structure
Global Flex allows students to choose both the time abroad and the course structure that best fits their schedule. Here are some of the most common models for how students have enrolled in Global Flex. Note models vary by location.
