
Spanish Language, Media, and Culture in Latin America
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
During this program, students will directly observe interactions of Argentine people, experience Argentine daily life, and visit Argentine media sites. They will learn about history, politics, sports, language and culture. Using this foundation in Argentine culture, the students will be familiarized with the key media sources in Argentina and introduced to the Argentine journalism, advertising, public relations, and entertainment industries. Every CIEE Faculty-Led & Custom program is a unique combination of high-quality academics and co-curricular activities and excursions that offer real-world experiences to enhance classroom learning.
Destination
Buenos Aires is one of Latin America's largest and most influential media centers, home to major newspapers , TV networks, film studios, and advertising agencies. The city has a rich tradition of political activism, literature, journalism, and public discourse, making it a dynamic environment to study communication in real-world contexts. The program explores Spanish language media and culture integrating the history, philosophies, religions, values, customs, and media of Argentina.

LECTURES
Spanish Language, Media, and Culture in Latin America program can include the following guest lectures
- Q&A meeting with a local reporter to gain a real-world perspective of the local media industry, including its unique ethics and challenges.
- Argentine News and Journalism
- Strategic Communication in Argentina: Navigating Media, Politics and Public Opinion.

SITE VISITS
Here are just a few of the possibilities for co-curricular activities and excursions in Buenos Aires:
- A newspaper or a news agency office tour to learn about behind the scenes operations.
- A guided tour of the Recoleta neighborhood, including the famous Recoleta Cemetery, which serves as a living narrative of Argentina’s political and social history, teaching students how cities communicate identity and memory through space.
- A tour of Estancia Ranch, including a traditional gaucho asado and corrida de sortija performance.
- Visit the Museum of Latin American Art to understand how art serves as a medium for cultural expression, political critique, and identity formation across Latin America.
- A traditional Argentine cuisine cooking class to gain meaningful insights into the country's culture, values, and identity through the lens of food
