BMCC President Dr. Anthony E. Munroe, together with CIEE President and CEO Dr. James Pellow, celebrated the one-year anniversary of the BMCC–CIEE partnership—which has so far sent more than 150 BMCC students abroad to cities such as Berlin, Kyoto, Cape Town, and Paris.

Studying fashion in Paris, the global fashion capital, sounds like a fantasy for students who want to work in the industry. For Anthony Guzman, who has been running his own clothing brand since 2020, studying abroad made it a dream come true.

The Wissel family of Lee’s Summit, Missouri opened their home to two international exchange students, Arthur and Justus, through the U.S. Department of State’s BridgeUSA program. Over 10 months, they shared everyday American life — from football games to family dinners — and built bonds that transcended borders. This story shows how cultural exchange creates the next generation of global allies, one classroom at a time.

Ellen Rikhof, a high school student from West Seattle, participated in CIEE’s Ocean Conservation & Sustainability program in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2023. Ellen credits her experience in Cape Town as a key inspiration for launching the Deep Sea Conservation Festival, a day-long festival to educate and engage her community on the importance of environmental responsibility.
