CIEE Announces 2026 as the “Year of the Host Family”
CIEE has announced 2026 as the Year of the Host Family, a year-long initiative dedicated to recognizing and training host families and strengthening the hosting experience across its BridgeUSA programs.
As part of the launch, CIEE has formed its first-ever Host Family Advisory Committee, composed of outstanding host families from California, Texas, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. The committee will help inform host family best practices, training, and support, ensuring high-quality experiences for both families and international participants.
The Advisory Committee will convene this weekend in Florida for CIEE’s inaugural Host Family Best Practices Training Summit, joining experienced program staff for collaborative sessions focused on communication, engagement, and participant support throughout the hosting journey.
During the same week, host families will also participate in CIEE’s Golf is Global™ event, which brings together sport and cultural exchange. The event includes a family golf skills challenge with local high school and college students, educators, and members of the broader CIEE community.
“These initiatives reflect our commitment to the host families who make international exchange possible,” said James P. Pellow, Ed.D., President and CEO of CIEE. “Host families are at the heart of cultural exchange, and the Year of the Host Family is about recognizing their impact while continuing to raise the standard of support and experience.”
CIEE will spotlight members of the Host Family Advisory Committee across its Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook channels. Key insights and outcomes from the Summit will be shared publicly in February.
The Year of the Host Family builds on CIEE’s 75-year mission to expand access to international exchange and experiential learning, empowering young people to build a more connected and peaceful world.
