My American Internship: Miranda H. of South Africa
Our "My American Internship" series features CIEE BridgeUSA participants who submitted entries to our photo essay contest. Miranda H. of South Africa served as a pastry chef intern at the Montage Deer Valley in Park City, Utah.
Being part of the CIEE BridgeUSA Intern program at the Montage Deer Valley in Utah as a pastry chef intern was nothing short of life changing. This experience not only elevated my professional skills but also helped me grow as an individual in ways I never imagined.
The training I received at the Montage was exceptional. I gained a whole new perspective on work ethic, learned to work with precision and efficiency, and developed pastry skills that are truly world class. I know for sure I wouldn't have had this level of growth and exposure anywhere else in the world.
Outside of work, the cultural exchange was incredibly enriching. I met people from completely different backgrounds and got to learn how they live, think, and work. I made two dear friends – one from Zimbabwe and another from Utah – who made my experience even more meaningful. The bonds we formed go beyond borders, and I'll treasure them for a lifetime.
One of the highlights of my journey was visiting Las Vegas. Seeing Caesars Palace in person was like a dream come true. It was one of those surreal moments that will stay with me forever.
To anyone considering this internship program: Embrace the experience fully. Find the balance between your professional development and your social life, because both are essential in shaping an unforgettable journey.
