ACADEMIC CONSORTIUM GOVERNANCE
The Academic Consortium Board (ACB) is the voice of all CIEE Academic Consortium (AC) member institutions. This unique group of experts in the field of international education—elected by the very people who send students on our programs—is responsible for continuous program monitoring and evaluation of all CIEE study abroad programs. Through rigorous site evaluations, high standards, and a commitment to keeping abreast of topics and trends in this rapidly evolving industry, the ACB helps to ensure we provide the highest-quality, most valuable programs available—programs that are academically challenging, personally fulfilling, and culturally inspiring.
The ACB consists of eleven elected members plus the Chair of the CIEE Board of Directors who serves ex officio with voting privileges. ACB eligibility is restricted to official representatives of Academic Consortium member institutions and other faculty or administrators from member institutions that have the endorsement of the official representative of their institutions.
Academic Consortium Voting Representative
CIEE Academic Consortium (AC) member institutions designate an official representative to exercise the institution’s voting rights at the annual meeting and in mail ballots. Unless otherwise specified by the institution, the individual who signs the Consortium Membership Agreement will be designated as the official institutional representative.
AC members are asked to designate appropriate faculty and/or administrative contacts for the various purposes set forth in the sections that follow. Unless otherwise specified, CIEE will assume that the official institutional representative is the correct contact for all listed purposes.
This person is generally a study abroad advisor and serves as the principal liaison for processing applications. Institutions may name multiple advisor contacts in accordance with the administrative structures that exist on each campus.
Member institutions may designate any number of faculty representatives for the programs they wish to use. Faculty representatives should have an academic background related to program content. Representatives receive regular updates about programs in their area, as well as a supply of promotional materials to share with their students, and may be called on for advice and input on academic issues.
Members pay $450 in dues at the start of each calendar year. Because these dues directly support many CIEE efforts, membership demonstrates your support of our mission to "to develop and deliver international programs and support services to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world."
Institutions that meet the qualifications for AC membership are invited to complete our Academic Consortium Membership Application. By submitting this document, applicants agree to endorse the Academic Consortium Agreement.
