CIEE Study Abroad Alum Presented at Conference in Barcelona

The 2018 CIEE Annual Conference in Barcelona, Spain has officially come to a close. At the four-day event focused on leading innovation in study abroad, Susan Sygall from Mobility International USA (MIUSA) and CIEE Study Abroad alum Abigail Lehner (second from left in photo) presented an exciting session on the principles of Universal Design and addressed disability access in international education programming. Abigail says of the experience:

"Speaking at the CIEE Annual Conference was an absolute honor. Having loved my internship program in Berlin, I was so excited to not only talk about my study abroad experience, but to also speak about my passions in life! Presenting on traveling with a disability, I was able to share my personal perspectives on how study abroad is for everyone. No matter what the circumstances may be, I want to encourage everyone to challenge themselves to travel! CIEE has allowed me, and so many others, to become immersed in new cultures and places. I'm so happy to be involved with international education and I hope to continue spreading the positive impact of studying abroad!"

The 2019 CIEE Annual Conference will take place on November 6-8 in Brooklyn, New York. Sign up to receive updates about the conference and registration.

    ALUM OF THE MONTH

The Alumni of the Month for November is... all of you! As we celebrated International Education Week (IEW) this month, we'd like to take a moment to recognize all of our amazing alumni and your accomplishments. Thank you for all you do and for keeping in touch with CIEE!

IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences. CIEE celebrated with social media posts and blog posts to share the incredible impact an exchange experience can have on a life. Read our favorites.

    ALUMNI VOICES

Excerpts from recently published alumni stories:

"I had the time of my life and formed friendships so strong that one friend from Bowie High School I meet annually every year and is also coming to my wedding. I can now truly say that I don’t have only one home but two." -Anna Schmidtová (CIEE High School USA, 2008)

"The CIEE Work and Travel USA program made me love people more, made me want to share my adventures, support fellow students to travel more, have the courage to experience a multicultural environment, and to be determined to work hard because in the end, it all pays off with amazing stories to tell your grandchildren."  -Mihaela Dragomir (CIEE Work & Travel USA, 2013, 2015, 2015, 2016)

"It is a stereotype that Russians are closed and unfriendly to those they do not know. I found that stereotype to be far from the truth. I learned more about Russian society from interacting with people who had no connection to America. They taught me more on my mini journeys than I learned in whole courses back at my American university."  -Liya Wizevich (CIEE Study Abroad, Moscow, Russia, 2016)
