Local Coordinator Benefits and Pay
Make a difference in your community – and get paid for the impact you create
Find Fulfillment with a Meaningful Opportunity
When you become a local coordinator, you step into a role that’s rewarding – both personally and financially.
As a local coordinator, you become a bridge between cultures, a mentor to young people, and a trusted partner to families and schools in your community. The impact you make is real, lasting, and often life‑changing.
How Local Coordinators Get Paid
One of the biggest benefits of becoming a CIEE local coordinator is compensation! You receive payment for each exchange student placed with a host family in your area.
Local coordinators at CIEE can earn $1,000-$2,000 per placement. They may also be eligible for CIEE-funded international trips.
Set your own hours. Work where you want. And choose how many students you take on. The CIEE pay structure rewards your efforts.
NOTE: Local coordinators are not CIEE staff members. They are self-employed, 1099 contractors, responsible for paying their own taxes. There are no employee benefits.
Mission-Driven Benefits
When you become a local coordinator, you’re doing far more than placing students – you’re opening doors, building bridges, and helping shape the kind of world we want to live in.
The mission‑driven benefits are powerful, lasting, and deeply rewarding, including:
Incentive Travel Opportunities
As a local coordinator, your impact doesn’t go unnoticed – it’s celebrated. Our incentive trips are designed to recognize your hard work while bringing our global community together in inspiring destinations around the world.
Recent trips have included Panama, Madrid, and Paris; each offering a unique backdrop for connection, exploration, and shared purpose.
These experiences go far beyond travel. They’re an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with fellow local coordinators, connect with CIEE leadership, and engage with international representatives who help make each exchange possible. You’ll gain fresh perspectives, discover new approaches to supporting students and host families, and strengthen the “glocal” (global + local) network that powers successful programs.
Just as importantly, these trips are a chance to recharge, feel recognized, and return home inspired and equipped with new ideas and deeper connections that enhance the impact you make in your community every day.
Be a Part of Cultural Exchange
If you’ve hosted an exchange student or participated in a program yourself, you already know how transformative these experiences can be. As a local coordinator, you can bring that same opportunity to others.
Let the world come to you as you learn about different countries, cultures, and perspectives – right from your own home.
Build Your Skill Set
Local coordinators are community leaders. And almost any industry appreciates the real-world skills you’ll strengthen, like:
- Adaptability
- Communication
- Conflict resolution
- Decision-making
- Mediation
- Mentorship
- Problem-solving
- Time management
- And more!
Create Lifelong Relationships
International participants. Local host families. School administrators, teachers, and coaches. And other local coordinators. That’s who you’ll meet when you take on this role.
Many coordinators stay in touch with their students long after the program ends, celebrating milestones like graduations and weddings, and even planning future visits abroad. And these relationships can often last a lifetime.
Have the Chance to Shape the Next Generation
You’ll witness students grow in confidence as they adapt to American life. You’ll hear their language skills improve, cheer them on in new activities, and watch them build friendships and bonds with their host families.
Your support helps shape their experience – and often their future.
Refer A Friend
You can now earn cash rewards for referring friends to CIEE Study Abroad programs!
As a CIEE local coordinator, you’ve witnessed the power of international exchange in your own community. Today, you can help U.S. students enjoy this experience and share the rewards.
Any student you refer to our programs will qualify you for a $200 cash reward when the student travels with CIEE.
The new referral dashboard in your CIEE account makes it easy for you to keep track of the friends you’ve referred and where their CIEE application stands.
