The Destination

Paris dazzles with its timeless charm, from bookstalls along the Seine River to the Gothic towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral. Neighborhoods like Montmartre, once called home by artists like Claude Monet, still carry a bohemian spirit, while the Latin Quarter buzzes with student life. The local café culture has long served as a gathering place for writers, artists, and thinkers, shaping the city’s creative spirit.

In Toulouse, discover a unique blend of history and innovation with its distinctive pink-brick facades. Narrow streets wind past Renaissance-era mansions and lively squares frequented by local students. As France’s second-largest student city, Toulouse combines a compact, walkable center with the resources of a major city, offering vibrant markets filled with affordable, seasonal produce and a dynamic, youthful atmosphere.

Nice offers a slower pace of living on the Mediterranean coast. Local life is centered on the seaside Promenade des Anglais and the Cours Saleya market, filled with stalls selling fresh produce and flowers. Once ruled by Sardinia, Italian influences are still visible in the food, architecture, and culture. These three iconic destinations promise an unforgettable journey through France.

Art-Filled Day Trips to Arles and Aix-en-Provence

Dive into the art history of the region with day trips to Arles and Aix-en-Provence, the birthplaces of some of the most iconic French artists. In Arles, Provence’s golden light and Roman heritage inspired Vincent van Gogh. Strolling through its ancient amphitheater and charming streets, you encounter the scenes that appear in some of the painter’s most famous works. Local markets, quaint cafés and sunlit squares give a sense of daily life in both Van Gogh’s time and today.

Aix-en-Provence, the birthplace of Paul Cézanne, reveals the landscapes and urban scenes that shaped the artist’s distinctive style. Fountains, tree-lined boulevards and colorful markets bring the city to life, while an outdoor painting class encourages you to capture the rolling vineyards and vibrant cityscapes firsthand. This immersive experience provides a deeper connection to Provence’s artistic legacy and offers memorable creative moments alongside your gap year abroad peers.
